Pre-game Repast: Coolidge Corner Clubhouse a good choice for brunch…or ANYtime! (Originally posted 5/15)

While it may be known for having more TVs per seat than any other “sports bar” and for having both the area’s largest martini menu and general menu, the Coolidge Corner Clubhouse (www.thecoolidgecornerclubhouse.com) is also a great place to fuel up before the game or even your game!

On Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am-3 pm, the Clubhouse expands its already massively satisfying repertoire with set of brunch favorites that make it an ideal spot to meet and eat while you check your fantasy leagues or get ready for the kids’ soccer games, gymnastics classes, or any other weekend activities.

While the brunch menu may lack the creative sports-related names found on the extensive regular menu, the straight-ahead spirit can be helpful when you are still bleary-eyed from a busy weekend or from the stats of your favorite stars. From a pair of eggs any style to create-your own omelettes (or such profound pre-mades as the lox, onions and eggs), the Clubhouse has your healthy cholesterol needs covered. For those who still dare to eat gluten, the buttermilk pancakes (with or without fruit and/or chocolate chips), challah French toast and ice cream-covered Belgian waffle (featuring the Clubhouse’s homemade cinnamon-vanilla batter) are not to be missed. For the indecisive, the sampler offers the toast along with one waffle and one pancake to make sure every carb craving is accounted for. To go along with the Clubhouse’s famed foreign-inspired fare, the brunch menu also offers an authentic breakfast burrito and quesadilla, a Southwestern scramble, and the CCC Special, which includes two potato latkes with thick slices of grilled tomato and eggs. For those for whom 9-3 may be too early for a large meal, the Clubhouse also offers satisfying sides that can either accompany your main dish or take its place (at least until your stomach has warmed up a bit). Among these are a respectable bagel (with or without butter, jelly, or cream cheese, tomato and/or onion), or English muffin, a latke, pair of eggs, or serving of their famed corned beef hash. You can also prepare for the rest of the meal (and the day) with a single waffle or slice of French toast, a pair of pancakes or a set of savory meats.

Whether you need to accompany your meal or wash down a rough workweek or draining night of revelry, the Clubhouse has your refreshment requirements handled as well. In addition to an adult-sized pour of freshly-squeezed fruit juice to bottomless cups of fresh coffee and brewed iced tea (which can also be incorporated in the refreshing Arnold Palmer, which may be the only named item on the menu), the Clubhouse also offers a homemade Bloody Mary made with the Clubhouse’s own mix and a menu-full of top-shelf vodkas, a Mimosa straight or rocked, a grapefruit sparkler with St. Germain, Campari, Champagne & grapefruit juice, or their popular Mango Bellini or Strawberry Blush that are also made with real champagne.

As the regular menu is always in play, any meal can be finished with what may be two of the best desserts around- the Clubhouse’s trend-starting chocolate lava cake and their massive homemade mud pies. Available in a variety of flavors, this happy hunk of “diet starts tomorrow” comes complete with a steak knife in order to encourage sharing (as if!).

Speaking of steak, the Clubhouse also offers one of the largest and best burger menus around, with everything from the Louisiana-spiced Superdome to the Marinara-topped Rocky Marciano, to the Ted Williams with bacon, mushrooms, and melted cheddar cheese, these bulbous burgers have all the flavor and personality of Boston sports…and then some!
If you are already on a diet (of sorts) the Clubhouse offers a wide array of sensible salads, soups and healthy sides as well, including, a vegetarian “health plate” (one of their many veggie-friendly options) that includes carrots, cucumbers, broccoli, mushrooms, black olives, pepperoncini, and assorted cheeses served with the Clubhouse’s one-of-a-kind avocado ranch dressing, For those who are willing to run the extra mile the next day, the Clubhouse nachos are a spicy pile of yummy that can last an entire game.

So no matter what day it is, what game is on, or which members of your team you choose to bring by, the Coolidge Corner Clubhouse truly has your back from savory soups to nutty desserts. Though it is usually comfortably filled with a friendly mixture of enthusiastic sports fans, local food fans, romantic diners, movers and shakers, and families out for a good, solid meal, there is always room for one more fan (and one more piece of pie).
