Rhode Island on the radio

Matt regularly appears with Jordan Rich on “Connoisseur’s Corner” which airs on Boston’s 50,000-watt CBS affiliate WBZ AM 1030 weekdays at 11:55 AM.

The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s forthcoming segments:

Living in the Boston area, I am amazed (and perhaps spoiled) by the diversity and quality of the booming food scene. Many are the times when I have been enjoying a meal in my home state and felt there really could be nothing better.

Fortunately, the independent-thinking Roger Williams was “encouraged” to head down to what is now Rhode Island and the lively experiment has been delicious.

While RI is known for the Newport mansions and music festivals and Brown University and the RI School of Design, the food scene has become a huge draw. And while the menu of options may be overwhelming, a great way to get a good taste is the RI Red Food Tour. The tour takes locals and visitors alike through the streets of DownCity, stopping at a wide range of faves that range from the local legend coal-fired pizza to Chinese Bao Bao to a beer-lovers haven tucked in one of the city’s most historic buildings. And at just three hours, it also leaves plenty of time to explore other eateries before and after.

Tours operate April through November and private tours can be arranged. So while Boston may have more than its fair share, it is truly worth the $6 commuter fail fare to see and taste what our southern neighbors have to offer.
