The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s segments:

As the reality of food shortages begins to set in, many people are looking for alternatives that can be stored for longer periods of time. Fortunately, there is no shortage of milk alternatives for every diet preference and every taste. While almond and coconut milk have been around for a while, even they are being used in new ways, such as Ayo’s almond milk yogurt and puddings from the Coconut Collaborative. I have even found a milk alternative made from bananas!

Ayo almond milk yogurts come from family-raised, organic California almonds and offer a creamy option for those who cannot tolerate dairy or who do not like the thick consistency of other yogurts. Though they have no milk, however Ayo almondmilk yogurt does offer the probiotic benefits of yogurt and come in great fruit flavors too!

As its recently-changed name implied, the Collaborative (formerly the Coconut Collaborative) sources its products from a partnership with South Asian farmers in which the farmers give of their coconutty bounty and get fair wages and new trees planted each year! Their line of vegan products includes yogurts and individually shots of pudding that are perfect for a treat even if you can tolerate milk.

Banana Wave was created by Sharon native Steve Gelerman and represents the world’s first non-dairy banana milk. Plant-based and packed with vitamins (many of which are not found in regular milk), the oat and banana-based beverage comes pre-flavored in banana, strawberry and chocolate, all of which mix well with cereal and other favorite foods or go great on their own!

Another yummy option is cashew- and oat-based milks from Nutty Life. Made with a simple set of organic and well-researched ingredients that also include dates and cocao, these are the brainchild of an admitted sweet tooth from Boston who wanted to eat healthy herself and help others do so as well! Instead of using the gums or fillers other alleged nut and oat milks do, Nutty Life milks actually have more nuts and oats in them, making them easier on your gut and better for your whole body!

So if your bunker is getting low, check out any of these products and stock up on delicious dairy alternatives that work well even in times of plenty.
