Matt regularly appears with Jordan Rich on “Connoisseur’s Corner” which airs on WBZ (http://boston.cbslocal.com) weekdays at 11:55 AM.
The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s forthcoming segments:
While the Mediterranean may continue to wash through the Greater Boston area with help from Jody Adams’ dynamic duo of Porto and Saloniki, Ilan Barniv’s BonaPita in the Financial District, and our friends at Farm Grill in Newton, there is a true Greek Revival going on at the Park Plaza that is sure to please the Hellas out of food fans!
After 13 years, local kitchen legend Michael Schlow reopened Via Matta as Doretta Taverna and Raw Bar. In an effort to keep his menu authentic and his fans satisfied, Schlow recently named Greek chef Brendan Pelley as Chef de Cuisine. Together the James Beard Award-winner and the Latin lover hope to bring more great Greek to Boston than ever before.
Among the famously clean and balanced flavors that are being further enhanced under Chef Pelley’s expert hand are such Hellenic hits as the crunchy eggplant, braised lamb orzo, and housemade Hilopites pasta. Those with Hermes’ winged heels can stop by for a Lunch on the Fly, which includes a salad, pita sandwich and drink. Those with more time to linger can enjoy the “date night” prix fixe menu every Sunday-Tuesday from 5 PM-closing (after which guests can simply get a room at the Plaza across the street or wander the Commons in the moonlight).
So while Boston has many places for Mediterranean, there are a few standouts like Doretta Taverna where it’s all Greek to you- and that’s a good thing!
