The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s segments:

As any dedicated readers or listeners know, I loves me some fried chicken! From Gus’s to Popeye’s, I have travelled far and wide to get that perfect combination of succulent snap and spice.

Fortunately, I recently discovered that I can get some pretty good stuff right nearby in Waltham.

Recently opened by the team behind Moody’s Delicatessen, The Pollo Club (that’s “pollo” with TWO “l”s) offers free-range preparations that range from crispy tenders to a half rotisseried or entire fried bird, each of which comes with their soon-to-be-famous buttermilk biscuit and a choice of such sauces as Korean BBQ, honey butter, chipotle aioli or hot as – well, you know!

In addition to chicken, the Club offers Halloumi and tofu Banh Mi sandwiches, and such Southern sides as hush puppies, black-eyed peas, country collards, and mac and cheese (many of which can be prepared to fit with vegetarian or vegan diets).

To wash it all down, the Club’s cocktail list includes creative originals like the persimmony Ruby Wave Fizz and the honey bourbon-based Jack & Mare (which also features homemade sponge candy), fun and tasty mocktails like the peppery Bite Back and old faves like Artifact Cider, Narragansett lager and Miller High Life, as well as wines and other refreshing treats. No matter what you enioy, be sure to save room for a seasonal popsicle or the melt-in-your-mouth S’mores jar.

While it may not be Memphis or the Big Easy, The Pollo Club makes it easier to find authentic fried chicken and all the familiar fixin’s without flyin’ the coop.
