PLEASE support your local food providers and STAY WELL!
While toilet paper has been causing all the fuss of late, many people are not considering the importance of edible staples, like milk and eggs. Though farms may continue to produce these essential ingredients, breakdowns in processing and transportation may be making it more difficult to get them and many people are also having trouble affording what they may have once taken for granted.
Fortunately, our NH-based friends at Pete and Gerry’s Organic Eggs are doing what they can to make sure their friends and neighbors have enough to eat by offering free eggs to those hard-working and unfortunately life-risking food industry employees who are considered “essential” even during (and often because of) the challenge we are all facing.
In exchange, they are asking for other food producers to provide their own workers extra food so they can at least have the security of knowing their families will be fed even if they do not have time to hunt down provisions.
Among early adopters have been such local heroes as Stonyfield Yogurt, North Country Smokehouse, W.S. Badger,GrandyOats, Allagash and Vermont Coffee Company, and the folks at Pete and Gerry’s hope that this trend spreads.
If you produce food or need it, contact the folks at Pete and Gerry’s to see how they got the program started. And if you need eggs, you know which neighbors to turn to!
