I was recently told by my doctor that I have a heart condition, so I need to be more careful about what I eat and put into my body. I told my doctor that I’m okay with taking any kind of pill, as long as I can indulge in a donut and a little candy every month.
Fortunately, I recently found a brand of candy that makes me feel a lot less guilty, even though it tastes as good (if not better) than my classic childhood favorites.
Run by a chef who literally broke free from the criminal justice system, Break Free candy offers inclusive employment without judgement to help in the production of candy bars and other sweet treats that tastes as great as any other but without a lot of the junky ingredients that keep so many people imprisoned by poor health. In fact, many of their clever (re-)creations are gluten-free and vegan!
Not that you’ll notice, however, for while the Millionaire Bar is at least 10 times as good as its nationally-recognized inspiration, the Better Than Theirs bar is so good it will make you laugh (or at least snicker) and the Space Bar will put your taste buds into an orbit beyond our solar system.
For those who don’t feel like a nut (or who cannot have them due to allergies), there are even nut-free bars available, including a Samoa bar that will make you want to earn a merit badge!
Since I teach entrepreneurship to inmates, I know what great ideas they can come up with. All I can say is that I am glad the team behind Break Free Candy has broken free and is using their freedom to support others with their business model and their delicious line of goodies.
