A CHANUKAH MIRACLE

Especially at this time of year, when so many people are thinking about what they want to get, it is more important than ever to think about giving.

That is why I’ve been doing so much to spread the word about organizations like the WISHDISH project that helps people facing homelessness and food insecurity in Boston and beyond, and why I continue to be a champion for MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, a national advocacy nonprofit working to end hunger for people from every background and faith community.

Those of you who have attended one of my author talks at Boston Public Market or Center Makor in Newton may have noticed a stack of blue postcards that said “No one deserves to be hungry.” These are part of a campaign to reach out to the USDA to make sure that they keep those who are not so fortunate and who struggle to provide food for themselves and their loved ones top of mind at this season of giving and always. They are trying to gather 47,000 postcards to represent the 47 million people who are food insecure in our country. You can raise your voice too.

Even if you haven’t been able to come to one of my talks (the next one is January 8 at 7 at Makor), you can go to Mazon.org and either make a donation, request a set of postcards to fill out, or both. No matter what you do, your funds will go to protecting vital programs like SNAP that help those in need put food on their table and you will be able to rest assured that you have made an important contribution this holiday season that can change lives.
