FERM PLANS

I recently raved about Florence Street Foods and their AMAZING pickles and pickle processing and I am still enjoying SO many healthy, delicious foods that I found at the Pickle and Fermentation Festival at Independent Fermentations in Plymouth.

While I wait to hear more from them, however, I am looking forward to the Somerville Fermentation Festival, which will take place on September 7 at the Center for the Arts at the Armory in Somerville.

Like the event in Plymouth, this free event will celebrate the world of fermented foods and beverages and feature a diverse marketplace that showcases everything from the more familiarly fermented like pickled veggies, soy sauce, and kombucha to fermented chocolate (which is actually fermented immediately after harvesting) and even coffee!

As the best fermented foods are the freshest fermented foods, all of the vendors will be coming to Somerville from nearby, including fan faves like Real Pickles and Pigeon Cove Ferments and our friends at Independent Fermentations too!

In addition to individual and independent vendors, there will also be representatives from restaurants like Pagu and La Saison selling their fermented faves. There will even be live music!

For those who may not be familiar with fermentation, the Festival will also offer pickling presentations about sauces, cheeses, and other foods that can be great gateways to fermented fortune. Guests will also be invited to form a kraut mob and make their own sauerkraut at the Festival and they will also be allowed to go home not just with what they buy but also with starters for sourdoughs, kombuchas, and other tasty (and healthful) treats.
