HEAT WAVE

As I look forward to the latest installment of the New England Hot Sauce Fest in New Hampshire on July 26 (which features our fiery friends at Spicy Shark), I am all ready to get warmed up at the 12th Boston Jerk Fest, which will take place on July 11 and 12.

At this legendary Caribbean celebration, guests can not only enjoy some of the best island-inspired foods around (including jerk-spiced meats, nuts, and, of course, hot sauces from the likes of Bouquet Appétit, Hartley’s Jamaican Restaurant, R&S Jamaican, Murl’s Kitchen, Goodway Bakery, Reggae Foods, The Bone Sauce, Three Gingers Beef Jerky, and Volcanic Ash Hot Sauce), but also meet the makers as they demonstrate and sell their wonderful wares and take part in friendly competitions where the audience always wins!

In between bites, guests can also take in performances by Reggae stars like Third World, and Junior Toots’ tribute to the legendary Toots & the Maytals.

On Friday night, the Fest kicks off with a special rum & brew tasting at 5:30 PM that will feature over 60 delicious drinks from the islands and beyond, along with blazing bites and hot DJ tunes and a special performance by Soca Queen Alison Hinds!

In addition to serving hundreds of hungry (and thirsty) heat fans, the Jerk fest also acts as a fundraiser for such worthy organizations as Sustainable Food & Culture North American Marine Alliance,  and World Farmers, so the hot food will raise some cool cash for many people in need.
