I wanted to take a moment to thank our friends at Boston Public Market for hosting a live edition of The Writer’s Block in September and for inviting me back for events on October 23 and November 20.
At the kickoff event, I talked to BPM staffers Chelsea Doliner and Shannon Veilleux about the wonderful cookbook they had assembled with the help of their amazing vendors and food purveyors.
At the event, guests enjoyed conversation and special treats from some of the BPM’s favorite vendors, including Red Apple Farm and Curio Spice, and I got to try the latest treats from Beantown Pastrami, Q’s Nuts, and Crescent Ridge Farm whiIe I was there.
On the 23rd, I will be bringing Jeanie Gruber of WISHDISH to the Market.
Jeanie is a therapist-turned-caterer who lives part of the year in Newton and other parts with family in New Orleans, Providence, and LA, as well as at WonderRoot Farm in Stowe, MA.
As the founder of WISHDISH, Jeanie visits homeless shelters (including Common Cathedral in Boston) where she asks the guests about the dishes they wish they could enjoy again and then cooks them for the entire community!
Though she has been funding and cooking for WISHDISH on her own, Jeanie has released a cookbook featuring recipes and stories from the Common Cathedral community.
At the event, copies of the cookbook will be for sale, with proceeds supporting the program, so I urge everyone to come by and learn more about this AMAZING organization.
While ANY day is a good day to visit BPM, between the Harvest Party on October 16 and my author talk on October 23, this is shaping up to be a better time than most!
Please come support the food and homelsss communities of Boston (and beyond).
Thank you!
