Picking a Bonefish: Fish restaurant offers more than filets (Originally posted 9/15)

After a hard day of working out at LifeTime Fitness and shopping at University Station, you may be looking for a bit of space, distance, and sustenance.

Fortunately, there is a Bonefish Grill right across the street!

As the Florida-based chain moves into Massachusetts (with outposts in Burlington and Waltham as well), it has a high bar to clear. After all, this is where people come for great seafood! As their menu also offers hand-selected steaks, great drinks and impressive desserts, however, it appears safe to say that even people who do not love seafood restaurants will not have much of a bone to pick with Bonefish.

With a visual vibe that combines natural woods with contemporary art pieces (including a shimmering silver scale piece over one of the wide-mouthed booths in the main dining area) and wine racks all around, Bonefish is appropriate for families, friends, or those who you may want to become such, and also has plenty of room for business lunches and meetings (supported by a staff that is keen to ask where you have to be next, so they can pace your meal appropriately).

From such sharable starters as scallop and shrimp ceviche, Wagyu beef and ginger potstickers, Maryland crabcakes, lobster flatbread, lamb lollipops, and their famous Bang Bang shrimp to a menu of holdable hits like half-pound Kobe burgers and blackened Baja tacos, Bonefish has plenty of quick bites that make it a great stop during a busy day at the mall. However, with their artistically fresh salad preparations and New England clam chowder, Bonefish can also be a great place to stop for a spell and take in all the flavors it has to offer.

The fish main menu offers a wide variety of grillable favorites that an be spiked with any of a handful of savory sauces and further enhanced with such satisfying sides as garlic potatoes, truffle mac & cheese, steamed veggies or masked sweet potatoes. On the turf side are options like a Fontina pork chops, rib-eye steak, grilled lamb chops ad the sirloin and crab cake combo that can be “upgraded” to include a filet. There is also a surf and turf that can include lobster Thermidor, lobster tail or grilled shrimp. For those who like to eat with a spoon or even chopsticks, the spicy tuna, chicken Teriyaki and shrimp Pad Thai bowls will have you happily slurping your day away. And the set of steamed specials like pecan and Parmesan-crusted trout, tilapia Imperial and Lilys Chicken are just as healthy as they are tasty!

Now that you have eaten healthily, reward yourself with Bonefish’s famed flourless macadamia nut brownie – a dessert that s worth the trip even if you didn’t score a sale across the street (and Jen’s Jamaican coconut pie and the trios of cinnamon-sugar donuts are not bad either)! You will also need something liquid to complement all these fresh, cooked-to-order flavors- so why not try an Honest Tea, Vitamin Water or Bonefish’s refreshing original blackberry smash. If you are not headed back to the office (or need to recover from it), the beer selection includes Sam, Blue Moon, Brooklyn, Sierra Nevada, Bud, Miller, Guinness and Newcastle and the libations list features a set of martinis that ranges from standard to seasonal and includes such ingredients as pomegranates and peppers, as well as Cosmopolitans made with everything from blood oranges and cucumbers to Patron and two shades of fresh fruit-infused Sangria. And remember those wine bottles we mentioned? Not only are they decorative, but they can also be restorative as well. And as they are arranged by color, flavor, and body, they are also easy to match to whatever you pick to eat or whatever mood you may be in.

So whether you need a break from the gym, the mall, the office, or just your typical eatery, drop by Bonefish – You are sure to pick something great!
