PLEASE support your local food providers and STAY WELL!

While you may see a few individual runners (no pairs, please!) outside these days, the Marathon has been postponed and most people are being asked to stay home.

That has not stopped our neighbors at Harpoon Brewery from using our love of running and fitness to help the community, however.

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Harpoon has decided to take their popular Harpoon 5-Miler online and encouraging participants to take the time they would have run on May 17 to get outside and run (again, not in groups!) and to take pledges for donations just as so many have for years.

As in the past, all proceeds will benefit the Angel Fund, an independent non-profit charity that supports ALS research at the Cecil B. Day Laboratory for Neuromuscular Research at UMass Medical School in Worcester. Especially as the pandemic threatens people with conditions like ALS more than others, it is even more vital to participate and support the event this year, and Harpoon hopes that people will simply ask for pledges for the indoor exercise they do anyway so that they can add to the $2.1 million that they have already raised.

All registered runners will be sent a bib and will have chances to win prizes (including passes to the next HarpoonFest)! There will also be race shirts available. Participants can also pick up race bags curbside at the brewery that will include coupons to area eateries so they can be supported too.
