Matt records segments for Jordan Rich’s “Connoisseur’s Corner” which airs on WBZ (http://boston.cbslocal.com) weekdays at 11:55 AM.
The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s forthcoming segments:
BonaPita
Downtown Crossing has really been making a comeback of late. The infamous Jordan Marsh hole is being filled in with a gorgeous new tower and the buzz is back!
Part of that buzz is an amazing little eatery called BonaPita.
I literally go to this beautiful little converted chapel a few times a week and, even though the menu appears small, I am never without something new to enjoy!
The way it works is you pick one of four fillings- succulent chicken a la plancha that has been marinated overnight in Bonapita’s own spice mix, gently spiced beef meatballs cooked in lemon and herbs, black bean and beet patties or mushrooms with lentils and thyme – and then ask the friendly staff to fill it (which means stuffing a homemade pita pocket which is worth eating on its own), plate it (with rice and fresh grilled veggies) or toss it in a salad. The combinations are vast and, with the optional additions like pickled beets, regular, herb or spicy hummus and their signature hot sauce, any combo can be customized to your hearts content.
As the menu is small, the service is fast. And while BonaPita is a great place to take a quick health break, hanging around can be fun too, especially when chef/owner Ilan Barniv is offering his new collection of homemade baked goods.
Like I said, I literally go a few times a week and I feel better not only because I am helping an independent restaurant, but also because the healthy foods give me energy without fat, salt, or anything I do not want. In fact, one of the chefs apparently lost 30 pounds from eating there every day!
They also cater and offer 6-packs of pita, so you can take the flavors and health benefits home or back to your office.
