The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s forthcoming segments:
Volante farms
The farm-to-table thing is still so hot and many people are participating in CSAs or having Boston Organics deliver to their homes. While these are all great ideas, they do not deliver as wide a range of products as most supermakets.
Volante Farm in Needham started as a produce and flower market, but has been expanding in recent years to offer everything from freshly-made soups to rare nuts. In addition to farm-fresh produce taken from their own farm, they also offer over 100 cheeses, racks of New England-sourced wines, beers, and other beverages, and every day and gourmet treats from other area purveyors including Red Barn coffee, Iggy’s bread and even Cheryl Ann’s amazing challahs. They also have their own deli and in-house bakery so you can get what you want then and there, buy the ingredients and take them home, or have Chef Todd Heberlein cater. In the summer, they scoop Crescent Ridge ice cream and even let kids sit on the tractor! Upcoming events include their Winter Local Food Festival January 30, Chef Todd’s cooking classes February 6 and March 5, a Grand Beer Tasting February 27 and a Grand Wine Tasting March 129 and, later this year, a new season of their always popular Dinner in the Fields series, which makes the farm-to-table thing all the more authentic by hosting meals in the actual fields!. They always sell out, so watch their website (volantefarms.com) for information.
