Don’t fear the mixer

Matt regularly appears with Jordan Rich on “Connoisseur’s Corner” which airs on WBZ (http://boston.cbslocal.com) weekdays at 11:55 AM.

The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s forthcoming segments:

I have often heard the saying, “Give someone a fish and they eat for a day, but teach someone to fish and he eats for a lifetime.” And while I may never have been all that good a fisherman, I can see where the logic lies.

I have spoken and written about many of the organizations that send you ingredients and instructions and also about chefs that will come to your house and cook for you. But neither of these really give the customer all they need, which is really the ability and confidence to cook for themselves.

Fortunately, we have a great and fun place like Newton’s Create a Cook to get us knee deep in live bait!

With a team of talented chefs, many of whom come from the countries that spawned the cuisines they demonstrate, Create a Cook offers singles, couples, corporate teams, kids, and families a place to get together, cook and eat together, and perhaps most importantly learn together in a comfortable, supportive environment. Their themed classes range from hoe to copy your favorite chefs to how to make the best of what is available at farmers markets or your favorite store. Though ingredients and recipes are provided, most of the teachers relish opportunities to demonstrate ways to play it by ear (or by nose, I guess) and have fun creating in the kitchen. At the end of the night, guests have not only made meals, they have made friends and memories and developed the confidence to see their home kitchens in a whole new light and to create meals with what they have that are still healthy and delicious.
