The Bagel Place brings the best of VT to Newton

Matt regularly appears with Jordan Rich on “Connoisseur’s Corner” which airs on WBZ (http://boston.cbslocal.com) weekdays at 11:55 AM.

The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s forthcoming segments:

Around these parts, when you ask people where bagels come from, they will most often say Brooklyn or Montreal.
And if you ask them to name something notable from VT, it may most likely be a person with some crazy hair and some policies to match.

Politics aside, there is a new place in Newton that puts the lie to both claims.

Simply named The Bagel Place, this friendly stop along hectic Needham Street combines all the famed friendliness of VT with the flavor sense of NY. Family owned and operated, the Place offers locally-sourced ingredients (including VT’s legendary Cabot’s cheese and Hopkinton’s own Red Barn Coffee) in an impressive array of 20 freshly-made daily combinations that include favorites like pumpernickel, egg, sesame, poppy, and cinnamon raisin, as well as sought-out specials like chocolate marble and Sriracha cheddar. To top any or all of these are over 10 types of cream cheese, including horseradish, honey walnut, pesto, strawberry, roasted artichoke, and a shmear-worthy lox spread, as well as PB and/or J or just B.

If you hanker for more than a pat or a shmear, The Bagel Place has an abundance of suggested sandwich sets, featuring Boar’s Head meats, as well as a ton of salad and sandwich combinations, including a great array of breakfast bagels and an authentic (albeit round) Rueben.

So if all you think of when you hear VT is cows and curmudgeons, go to the Bagel Place and think again.
