The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s segments:

During my recent trip to VT, I was amazed at how creative people can be with the state’s seminal syrup. Frankly, however, I got a bit mapled out by the end of the weekend. So while I continue to pour syrup on and into everything from pancakes to martinis, I was very glad (and somewhat relieved) to find another amazing sweet treat fresh from the farm.

Tucked away in a little town called Brookfield is Fat Toad Farm, a family-run business that produces not only amazing milk and cheese but also an amazing array of handcrafted goat’s milk caramels and sauces that are a treat on anything- including a spoon!

In addition to the amazing original, Fat Toad caramel comes in such fantastic flavors as salted Bourbon, a cold brew coffee featuring VT Artisan Coffee and Tea, a spicy dark chocolate that partners the Fat Toad with Boston’s own Taza Chocolate, and, of course, Vermont maple from Cold Hollow Cider Mill. Apparently, resistance is futile- The sap sticks!

Though the flavors are diverse, they are also universally smooth and delicious, thanks to the fact that each batch is stirred by hand in copper pots to velvety perfection.

So if you want a true taste of Vermont that may not involve trees (and that comes in great snack kits and gift boxes too), try Fat Toad Farm caramel- it is amazing, warts and all!
