The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s segments:

While a lot of food writers focus on the booming scene in Boston, there are many suburbs that are on the make too. Perhaps top among these is Quincy, which is seeing a revolutionary revival of the T-accessible downtown and an expansion of offerings across the board.

The latest addition is called Idle Hour, a cocktail-centric neighborhood bar that does not skimp on the food.

Headed by Matthew Fried, who has found great success at Capo and Beehive, Idle Hour features the globally-inspired recipes and well-honed talents of Chef Ashley Gaboriault, who also made the food a standout at Drink, working with local legend Barbara Lynch.

Decorated with whimsical banana leaf wallpaper that might have been torn off the Beverly Hills Hotel, Idle Hours also features a 1960 console radio that may have your kids asking what it is and what it does. Regardless, the food and drink are comfortably contemporary and the place is just comfortable.

So if getting into Boston to eat takes up too much time, spend a more idle hour at the place that bears its name.
