The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s segments:
While we regale restaurants and salute suppliers, the sad truth of the food industry is that millions of pounds of edible, nutritious, and desperately-needed food are wasted every year.
Fortunately, there is Three Squares New England to support those organizations that put that “wasted” food to good use.
As was recently shown at their impressive (and delicious) showcase at Capo, even slightly damaged produce and past-the-infamous “due date” foods can be just as delicious and satisfying as anything we might get at a farmer’s market or from a local butcher or cheesemonger.
On September 23, The Squares New England will host the seventh annual version of their largest annual fundraiser. The Ride for Food will take place on the beautiful grounds of the Noble & Greenough School in Dedham and will support not only Three Squares, but many similarly-minded and hearted organizations like A Place to Turn, Boston Area Gleaners, JF&CS Family Table, Lovin’ Spoonfuls, the Women’s Lunch Place, and many more. The fact that there are so many of these organization should give a sense of the scope of the issue and this event is a great way to learn about and support them all!
So grab some friends, hop on your bikes, and get ready to ride to rid our community of waste and hunger at the same time!
