The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s segments:

While many of us may find ourselves at chains every so often, most of us have a special place in our hearts for the independents. We get an extra good feeling out of supporting people like Ivan Pulecio at Hearth or Blue Fire Coffee’s Patrick Maloney and go the extra mile to patronize them.

Fortunately, former fans of Peet’s Coffee in Newton Centre need only go across the street to 761 Beacon Street.

When she heard that her long-time place of purveyance was closing, master barista and devoted community member Faye Goldman went over to Central restaurant – a popular dinner spot in the area- and asked if she might serve coffee there during the day.

Within days, the idea was approved and Faye was once again serving her neighbors while at the same time, offering a new spot for other neighbors and visitors to gather during the day.

Central Café opens at 7 AM (weekends at 8) and serves coffee and related treats as well as salads, soups and sandwiches until it is time for Central to take on its familiar dinner-time ambiance. As she is such a fan of the community, Faye is keen to source locally and is usually on site to offer a cup and a smile you just can’t get at the big boys.

So whether or not you miss Peet’s drop into Central Café and make friends with Faye.
