The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s segments:
As the folks at Sears can tell you, running a family-founded business can be a challenge in today’s “big box” world. That is why there is so mugrch good to say about Testa Wines.
Established just after Prohibition, Testa Wines is currently run by the third and fourth generations of the family that took it over in 1962 and, despite challenges and difficulties, the family and the company have aged as well as the delicious wines they produce and sell. In its storied history, Testa has helped bring such now legendary names as Bolla, Moet, Vueve Clicquot, Korbel and others to the American market. These days, they are focusing on a smaller portfolio but have clearly chosen well!
Among the current standouts are the Villa Anna Pinot Grigio and he titular Testa Montepulciano D’Abruzzo. The white hales from a restricted region that results in perfectly-ripe grapes that are handled with care throughout the process to reveal a complex but complementary wine that involves flavors of fruit and flowers. The rich red was originally produced for members of the European royal court and that heritage is revealed in a bottle that is impressive and yet affordable. With hints of vanilla, this long-lasting wine is ready to drink and enjoy and if you do one, you will surely do the other!
So while the big boy wines may overwhelm most stores, savvy shoppers know that seeking out independent-minded vintners can bear great fruit. Testa is surely an example!
