The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s segments:
While I must admit that I kinda miss the glow-in-the-dark mini-golf, I will say that Door No. 7 in Wellesley’s Linden Square is a step up- even perhaps from its across-the-street sister restaurant, The Cottage (of which I am also a big fan!).
With a mirrored raw bar serving everything from local Littlenecks to Hamachi sashimi as part of the gleaming marble front area bar (which is also stocked with one flat screen and many gleaming bottles and people) and an exhibition kitchen in back, the vibe is a bit more sophisticated than the Cottage, but family dining is not unheard of.
The so-called “small plates” are most often enough for at least two and include their signature Cecina (a chickpea patty with an international array of dipping sauces), chargrilled lamb kofta, and pomegranate-glazed brussel sprouts. The larger plates range from Scottish organic salmon to pan-roasted Long Island duck and the Number 7 burger (with aged Amish cheddar) to the butternut squash ravioli.
The bar menu is as creative and tempting as the food, with such standouts as the beet and thyme syrup-infused 21stAmendment and the bourbon, rye, Amaro, and Angostura concoction called A Dangerous Man that is served over a cherry rock.
So if you want to find a new place to go in Wellesley when a sitter is available or when you want to have some fun on your own, open Door No. 7 and see what you find!
