The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s segments:
Though I love everyone in the food space, I especially like to talk about independent companies and the community-minded B corporations that have become such a welcome trend in recent years.
One of the earliest and most progressive has been the Commonwealth’s Dean’s Beans, which has been producing organic, fairly-traded coffee and cocoa (and all the tools you need to enjoy it) for over 25 years!
Owner Dean Cycon has ben traveling the world to find not only the best coffee but also the best ways to treat the people who make it possible – paying a fair wage, fighting for gender equity and protecting the lands of the coffee farmers. Along the way, he has come up with an ever-broadening menu of deliciously mind-broadening blends that includes the only coffee to be officially brought on Greenpeace’s annual Arctic Expedition. While improving the morning rituals of millions around the world, Dean and his team have also improved the lives of thousands of native producers and distributors, making his coffee a true win-win.
On the weekend of July 12, Dean’s Beans will serve the more local community as a primary sponsor of the Green River Festival, a three-day music and culture festival at Greenfield Community College. So after a night of dancing under the stars, you can wake up knowing that your morning cup of coffee is also filling the coffers and lives of others around the world!
