The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s segments:
Almost everywhere I go to eat, I see computers with a little outline of a piece of toast on them. And while Boston’s own Toast may be best known for handling restaurant data with the latest technology, they also have a strong sense of food history. Starting this month, Toast is partnering with Food & Folklore to offer a set of pop-up experiences that will explore and educate about indigenous and traditional foods and cooking practices.
On November 18, the series will commence with an exploration of Iraqi food at Awafi Kitchen. After an Islamic diaspora meal with Chef Ismail Samadon January 20, Chef Otto Llamas will bring guests through his native Latin America on February 17. International Women’s Day will be celebrated a week later on March 16with an Abuela, Yaya & Mamma Dinner. The geographical vibe will then return April 13 as Chefs Siedric White and Tamika Francis explore Afro-Caribbean foods. On May 18, Chef Chantal Thomas will show off the sexy side of vegetarianism. The series (as currently set) will conclude on June 15 with West African street food as prepared by Chef Kwasi Kwaa.
For those who cannot make every meal or who want more of some of their new favorite foods, the Toast team apparently has plans to combine these international chefs into a food hall. For now, however, their friends at Toast are happy to allow them to show what they know and from where that knowledge comes so everyone can learn more about and enjoy more of what they eat.
