While a lot has changed this year and many events have been cancelled, it is good to know that some of the most popular and important are still going on.

Cape & Islands Bakes for Breast Cancer is scheduled to return for its fifth year from August 3-9 and is currently accepting applications for inclusion in the 2020 fundraising initiative from bakeries, cafés, pastry shops and restaurants throughout the Cape & Islands area.

Potential participants can either offer a designated dessert, 100% of the proceeds of which will go towards supporting breast cancer research, or they can offer 50% of the proceeds of their entire dessert menu. For the organization and those dealing with the disease, it is a sweet way to support vital research. For the participants, it should be a great way to encourage people to add dessert to their take out orders or to come by for a special treat once we are all free to move about again.

As the rates of breast cancer is 20% higher on the Cape and Islands (where event founder Carol Sneider lives) than the national average, this is an especially important event and now is the year to get involved, especially as many of our favorite eateries are suffering as well.
