On Father’s Day, my family took me for a walk down Memory Lane through my old neighborhood of North Andover, MA. And just as I used to on almost every weekend I spent there as a kid, we went to Smolak Farm for a blueberry muffin, Little did I know how much the farm had grown!

Though it started 300 years ago as a dairy farm, Smolak is now a family-owned, solar-powered farm, farm stand, and education center that offers everything from locally-sourced baked goods and ice cream (flavored with the farm’s own produce), berry and apple picking (some of which is also hosted at their satellite farm in Boxford), live animals, and even areas that make for great settings for everything from family reunions and school groups to birthdays and weddings. They are even hosting Wednesday night “Whim” dinners in their expansive and beautiful fields that feature area chefs who make the most of the farm’s fresh bounty.

While there is plenty to see and do at Smolak (including a one-hour walking tour that includes feed for the animals and fresh cider donuts for the people), Smolak is also a great place to get fresh and healthy meals to go and to pick up staples for your home and gifts from family and friends. From farm-raised fruits, jams, jellies, and even honey to local faves like cookies from Lark Fine Foods, to their own CSA program, the farm has something for everyone and is a great place to start new memories with your family as well!
