The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s segments:
Now that toilet paper supplies are back up, people have apparently moved on to bread as the main demand. And despite an explosion of home sourdough bakeries, many have apparently not conquered this in-demand skill.
Fortunately, our friend Galit Grutman of Galit’s Treats in Newton Centre is here to help!
Ever since Covid began, Galit has been spending even more time in her kitchen baking delicious challahs to give to senior citizens throughout the area. The program has proven so popular, that Galit has enlisted a bunch of fellow Israelis and other friends and volunteers to help cook the food and make the deliveries. Also, what started with Galit’s challah (which is worth a visit on its own!) has grown into grocery deliveries and even home and yard task help- all of which are donated. It’s a bunch of mitzvotall at once!
While Galit’s challahs are traditionally enjoyed on the Jewish Sabbath, they are delicious all week long and make for great French toast, sandwiches, and anything else bread can be used for. As they are all homemade with love, her titular treats can also bring a little bit of human kindness to people who may otherwise be or feel alone during the pandemic. And you don’t have to be Jewish to enjoy them! All you have to do is go to www.galitstreats.com and pick up some challah for yourself, your friends and family, or even people you may not even know. It is a warm and delicious way to connect in these isolating times.
