The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s forthcoming segments:
The Tea Party Returns
In December of 1773, our ancestors created the original Tea Party when they rioted against not having representation in Parliament, yet still having to pay taxes, by dumping tea into Boston Harbor. Whether or not the Harbor has officially recovered, the event is still seen as an historical.
On December 16, 2016, Boston’s most famous party will be accurately reenacted by over 200 actors who will process from the Old South Meeting House to the waterfront and then dump authentic tea from the same company that sent it over 230 years ago.
To enhance the celebration, area eateries will be adding their own flavor to the tea party and hosting their own parties as well. Among the participants will be RumBa and The Barking Crab, both of which overlook the site of where The Boston Tea Party took place and the Boston Tea Party Ship and Museum that now stands in the spot. There will also be special foods and beverages at the Avery Bar at the Ritz Carlton Boston Common Hotel, among the growing armada of Bon Me trucks, and, in special acts of Revolutionary recognition, at the historically-named Revere Hotel and the French-inspired Bastille Kitchen. For those who prefer other beverages, Blue State Coffee will offer special blends in many New England stores and Harpoon Brewery will release a special Boston Tea Party Ale infused with the same type of tea that got dumped all those years ago.
There will even be an entire prix fixe meal available at the nearby Atlantic Wharf outpost of Smith & Wollensky, featuring patriot Sam Adams’ eponymous lager.
So whether you like tea, historical reenactment, or just great food and drink, The Boston Tea Party will be a great party for all.
