The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s forthcoming segments:
Switchel
In addition to writing about food, I also teach boxing and am always on the lookout for healthy things to eat and do.
Among my recent discoveries have been apple cider vinegar, ginger, blackstrap molasses, and maple syrup, all of which have been shown to have health benefits and taste good too!
How happy was I, then, to discover that our friends in VT had the insight to put these all together into a refreshing drink called Switchel?
While the recipe is apparently generations old and has been used by hard-working folks for centuries as a thirst quencher and all-natural energy drink, the Switchel folks have taken this tried-and-true taste sensation to the next level by using authentic and organic ingredients. With its natural sources of calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium, B vitamins and Vitamin C, Switchel is an entire medicine cabinet in a bottle and it also mixes well with other life-giving elixirs – from mulled cider and tea to Bourbon and bitters. It is great for any time of day or night for any member of the family that needs a little pick me up without extra sugar or fat or other negative side effects.
If you cannot find authentic Vermont Switchel at your local Whole Foods or at Boston Public Market, it is available in single-serve bottles or concentrated carafes on the website, www.vtswitchel.com.
