Gefilte Manifesto

Matt regularly appears with Jordan Rich on “Connoisseur’s Corner” which airs on WBZ (http://boston.cbslocal.com) weekdays at 11:55 AM.

The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s forthcoming segments:

We recently kvelled about the Beyond Bubbie’s Kitchen event that is happening on February 26, but for those who like to get their fressen on at home, there is an amazing new cookbook from the team behind New York’s plotz-worthy Gefilteria.

Jeffrey Yoskowitz and Liz Alpern (both of whom made their mothers proud by being named to Forbes’ 30 under 30) recently released The Gefilte Manifesto, a collection of over 100 Old World Jewish foods done up in New World style. From rye bread and blintzes to the unavoidable matzo ball soup, the wunderkinder from Brooklyn offer their well-trained takes on popular items that anyone can eat and enjoy. The book offers sample menus for everything from a Latvian picnic to a contemporary Shabbat meal and a Borscht-shooter cocktail party. And as wasting food is a shonda, it even suggests ideas for what to with the tasty leftovers that might result from all your new cooking.

So even if you don’t know your kishke from your kreplach or your kasha from your kvass, this beautifully photographed love song to traditional recipes will have you hora-ing in the kitchen in no time.
