The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s segments:
While some might want to look to Israel for inspiration regarding border security, it is evident that the Israeli influence on the world food scene has been growing by leaps and bounds in recent years. With chefs like Alon Shaya and Michael Solomonov bringing the tastes of Jerusalem to food capitals like Philly and New Orleans, the Jewish state food wave is rising high.
From February 24 through March 2, JArts will present pairs of menschy makers from the Boston area in their Taste of Israel series.
As Boston’s first Israeli Restaurant Week, Taste of Israel will offer opportunities to taste foods and meet producers and purveyors who either come from or were inspired by Israel. The talented teams will combine representatives from such Connoisseur’s faves as Galit’s Treats, Café Landwer, and the recently (and thankfully)- expanded BONAPITA, as well as Craigie on Main, Mamaleh’s, Central Café, and even Liora’s Catering, as well as Chef Michael Leviton of Region Foodworks and The Chubby Chickpea’s Avi Shemtov, who.recently opened a Simcha(which means “joy”) in Sharon.
In order to encourage a wide range of tastings, participating venues will offer special Israeli Restaurant Week items and each item can be purchased a la carte with no ticket purchase required.
So if you think Israeli food is all about hummus and falafel or if you are already a fan and want to bring others into the foodie fold, you’ll kvellover JArts Taste of Israel!www.jartsboston.org
