The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s segments:

As a former writer for a union, I am always happy to support my fellow workers. That is why I have become such a fan of Democracy Brewing in Boston!

Opened near Park Street station on Independence Day of 2018  (naturally), this worker-run and owned Victorian-style brewpub and function hall offers a delicious variety of in-house-made beers such as the Worker’s Pint and Suffragette Pale Ale (all of which are available in giant 32 oz. “to-go” cans) as well as one of the best hot pretzels I have ever had (to the point that I often drop by just for those after teaching downtown!). Chef Ben Waxler’s lovingly scratch-made food that ranges from lamb shepherd’s pie and chicken schnitzel to a homemade veggie burger, a menu of mac n cheese options, and a set of pizza bagels that can be ordered in trios for those who favor both sides of the “Which is best?” argument.

As if the food and drink were not enough, Democracy is setting up a separate cider room and has a rentable back room in which they offer live comedy, music, trivia, and even movie nights (complete with their signature popcorns). Speaking of live music, Democracy is now the new home of piano man Mel Stiller, whose Friday night sing-alongs are truly the stuff of legend!

So the next time you have had a hard day working for the man (or even if you are the Man), drop by Democracy for equitable eats, democratic drink, and fun for all people.
