The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s segments:

When people speak of Maine and food, they often talk about blueberries and lobsters (or “lobstahs”).

Recently, however, a Midcoast mother and daughter came out with the Pine Tree State’s first bean-to-bar chocolate (and lots of other tasty treats!).

In addition to organic bars made from some of the finest beans on earth, Bixby and Co. also makes baking chips and bags of Dominican nibs that are a healthful and yummy addition to coffees, cakes, and pretty much anything else. Their vegan Bixby bars come in a wide range of sweet and satisfying flavors like hazelnut raisin and dark chocolate with Maine blueberries and the 20 Karat bar is an extra-special treat, but not so dear that it has to be saved for special occasions. To wash their other treats down, Bixby makes Mexican style and white drinking chocolates that are sure to start or end you day on a sweet note. They even make chocolate lip balm and soap so you can have the sweet smell with you all day!

For those in the area, Bixby’s chocolate and gelato shop is open in Rockland daily 10-5:30. For those further afield, their website has every item available and each is packaged with tender loving care to ensure that it gets to you in the best condition possible. Either way, Bixby & Co. are well on their way to making chocolate one of Maine’s most popular foods.
