The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s forthcoming segments:
Pepe’s Pizza
After a bit of a tease during which we almost lost The Fireplace in Brookline, Pepe’s Pizza has finally crossed the border from its native CT and landed in the Boston area!
In addition to being a member of the Trip Advisor Hall of Fame, Pepe’s has ben named among the top 10 restaurants in the nation by The Daily Meal and the best pizza in America by many others. Since 1925, Pepe’s has been taking care of lines out the door regularly at its growing group of Nutmeg State eateries, including New Haven, West Hartford, and Mohegan Sun, as well as at its recently-opened Yonkers, NY shop. I myself was introduced to Pepe’s on my first day out with my now father-in-law and actually took my groomsmen there on my wedding day!
The new store in the Mall at Chestnut Hill opened mid December and is already living up to the hype. Even for those for whom the New Haven-style thin crust is new, they quickly succumb and come back again and again. One of the original items that still set Pepe’s apart is his signature White Clam Pizza, made with little necks from RI. Many consider it the first “white” pizza and, while Pepe’s sauce is spectacular, those who love the clams claim to not miss it.
