Special Events at the South Street Diner

While the Seaport continues to pile on the great eateries, the landlubbers can still get some of the best grub in the Hub at a familiar favorite.

The South Street Diner is still one of Boston’s only 24-hour eateries. Not comfortable to rest on this distinction or its reputation, owner Sol Sidell is always coming up with new ways to bring people in and to say thanks to those who come back again and again.

From his famous (or perhaps infamous) Anti-Valentine’s Day (which this year will be on February 12), at which lonely hearts can drown their sorrows with unlimited “broken heart’ pancakes for $10 to their legendary Mardi Gras party on February 16 at which revelers can get fat on jambalaya, beignets, po’boys and alligator sausages while dancing to Zydeco and being pelted by beads. Sidell and the Diner crew know how to make every meal a cause for celebration.

Other notable days on the Diner calendar at St Patrick’s, which the Diner celebrates with a weekend-full of corned beef, cabbage, and Irish soda bread, all of which can be drowned with a Guinness for only $10 and the annual police/fire/first responder gathering before the South Boston parade, the Sox home opener on April 4, which will offer free all-you-can-eat Fenway Franks with any beer purchase, and the Marathon weekend carbo-load at which runners and others can enjoy all-they-can-eat pancakes for $5 on the days before and after the big race and runners can get special prizes just for showing up! On April 16, the Diner fetes its own special menu of 16 varieties as part of National Eggs Benedict Day (who knew?!).
