As you know, Jordan, I started my career reviewing concerts, which kept me out pretty late most nights.
As I have gotten a bit older and am not so keen on closing down the bars, I have tried to find good places to eat that also have music so I can get the best of both worlds.
I recently found a spot to hang out and grab a great burger and beer that also has musical offerings on Wednesday nights.
It is the Hancock Tavern in Quincy. From the outside, it looks like any other local pub. But the vibe inside gets pretty fun pretty fast once the Music Bingo begins.
DJ Larry Falk has been on the scene for decades and has an encyclopedic memory for music. For this game, he plays snippets of songs and then guests see if they have the title or artist on their BINGO cards. If they do, they fill in the blocks until they get BINGO and win a prize- ranging from bar swag to cash off their tabs. Topics range from One-0hit wonders to Rock Hall of Fame inductees and offer everything from ABBA to ZZ Top. It is a great way to reminisce with friends while competing with people who are yet to be your friends, all while enjoying some good honest food and a wide selection of beers and drinks.
It really takes me back and the other people playing seemed to like the musical memories too.
