Make a b-line (or commuter rail) for Red Stripe in RI

Matt regularly appears with Jordan Rich on “Connoisseur’s Corner” which airs on Boston’s 50,000-watt CBS affiliate WBZ AM 1030 weekdays at 11:55 AM.

The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s forthcoming segments:

Though Providence offers great food tours it would be foolish of us to discuss the Creative Capital without talking about at least one of the off-the-beaten-path but worth-going-to places that have made it famous.

While many flock to Federal Hill for the freshest in authentic Italian, Boston diners may feel more at home dropping in on one of their neighbors.

Having made her mark in her native Needham, Chef Rachel Klein has headed south to take the helm at the two Red Stripe restaurants in Providence and East Greenwich. In these open and airy spaces that feature custom ceramic work and relics from the beloved Rocky Point amusement park, Chef Klein and her talented team offer outsized portions that do not lose their quality in their big bowls, including a well-named Everything But the Kitchen Sink salad that is a meal for days. In addition to the eponymous beer, the Stripe offers a great wine list and cocktail program and a rotating menu of special events that includes Monday’s mussel madness (which highlights the already extensive mussel menu), and Thursday’s burger and beer pairings, which also feature the worth-ordering-alone hand-cut frites. The foraged mushroom arancini, Buffalo cauliflower, and extensive children’s menu are also attractions. And for dessert, do not miss the still-hot-in-the-pan fresh-baked brownie sundae.

So while Boston has a greet deal to offer, it is worth the trip to visit our neighbors in the next state.
