Matt regularly appears with Jordan Rich on “Connoisseur’s Corner” which airs on Boston’s 50,000-watt CBS affiliate WBZ AM 1030 weekdays at 11:55 AM.
The following is a “script” for one of Matt’s forthcoming segments:
Living in the Boston area, I am amazed (and perhaps spoiled) by the diversity and quality of the booming food scene. Many are the times when I have been enjoying a meal in my home state and felt there really could be nothing better.
Fortunately, the independent-thinking Roger Williams was “encouraged” to head down to what is now Rhode Island and the lively experiment has been delicious.
While RI is known for the Newport mansions, music festivals, Brown University and the RI School of Design, another school that has been bringing Rhode Island’s food scene to the forefront is Johnson & Wales University’s Culinary School. And while the menu of options in RI may be overwhelming, a great way to get a good taste is the Rhode Island Red Food Tours. This walking tour through the heart of Providence takes locals and visitors alike through the streets of Downcity sharing history and art as well as tastings at a wide variety of 6 restaurants that range from a local legend coal-fired pizza to Chinese Bao Bao; from a French Café Bakery with one of the top pastry chefs in the country to a AAA 4-Star Award-winning restaurant (5 times!). And don’t forget the casual dining and a beer-lovers’ haven tucked in one of the city’s most historic buildings. At just over three hours, it also leaves plenty of time to explore other recommended eateries around the city before and after.
The tours operate April through November with gift certificates and private group tours for corporate/team building, bachelor/bachelorette parties also available.
So while Boston may have more than its fair share of great eateries, it is truly worth the quick one-hour trip to see and taste what our southern neighbors are cooking up.
